The National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) are a set of evidence-based objectives established by The Joint Commission to help healthcare organizations improve patient safety. Updated annually, these goals focus on preventing common and serious risks to patient well-being—such as medication errors, misidentification, infections, and communication failures. Each goal provides clear actions that hospitals and healthcare staff can take to reduce harm and strengthen safe practices across all areas of care.
